Chapter 1 - An Introduction to the Human Body - Checkpoint - Page 12: 7

Answer

Intracellular fluid, also called the cytosol, is fluid within the plasma membrane, but outside the nucleus of cells. Cytosol and organelles make up the cytoplasm of cells. Extracellular fluid is bodily fluid that exists outside body cells. It includes several compartments: Blood plasma ( intervascular fluid) which is the fluid part of blood, and is found in blood vessels Lymph: Found in vessels of the lymphatic system Interstistial fluid found in the spaces between cells of tissues Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in (around) the brain and spinal cord. Aqueous humor, and vitreous humor in the anterior and posterior chambers of the eye, respectively.

Work Step by Step

Intracellular fluid: This is the cytosol of cells found between the plasma membrane, and nuclear membrane of cells; it contains the cell organelles. Extracellular fluid. This is body fluid found outside of cell plasma membranes. Extracellular fluid comprises: (a) blood plasma found inside vessels of the cardiovascular system, (b) lymph found in lymphatic vessels,(c) interstitial fluid found in spaces between cells of tissues--e.g. muscle cells) (d) cerebrospinal fluid in the brain and spinal cord, and (e) the aqueous humor and the vitreous humors of the eye.
