Answer
The four important functions of epithelial tissues are to physically protect the body from the outside elements, control permeability of materials in and out of the body, allow for sensation, and produce secretions. Keratinized stratified squamous epithelial tissue covers the body and prevents foreign bodies from easily entering the body. Simple squamous epithelial cells in the kidney controls permability via filtering of blood and transport of molecules along the kidney surface. Stratified squamous epithelial tissue in the esophagus allows for sensation via interaction with nerves located near the esophagus. Pseudotratified columnar epithelial tissue (ciliated) in the trachea provide secretions via the production of mucus.
