Answer

Alcoholics are defined as people who intake alcohol uncontrollably, and teetotalers are defined as people who do not drink alcohol. One of the main functions of the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum is to detoxify drugs, which, in this case, is alcohol. As more alcohol is taken in, a specific enzyme concentration on the smooth ER will increase to keep up with the increased drug intake. In order to keep up with the demand of detoxifying the alcohol, the production of smooth ER is stimulated. Teetotalers, as they don’t take in alcohol, have a smaller amount of smooth ER as there’s not a high demand of its detoxification function.
