Answer
When the results of the sample do not represent the population completely, it is said to be a bias.
Sources of bias:
There are three sources of bias: sampling bias, nonresponse bias, and response bias.
The example of sampling bias is as follows: If a survey for teens who consume drugs is conducted in a high school, then this would not include those teenagers who are dropouts or are at their homes. It would not represent the population completely, and hence would show a sampling bias.
A type of bias in which the person answers the question but the answer may not be the true one is a response bias. For example, there may be a situation where the person may answer a specific question under pressure because the answer is acceptable socially.
Suppose a survey is being sent via e-mail from a company’s end, and there is no businessman who responds to the e-mail, but there are some students who answer the e-mail. This affects the sample results and thus results become biased as there is no opinion from businessmen. This is an example of non-response bias.
The reason for bias in a census:
Census follows a non-response bias as it is not easy to count every member in such a large population of individuals.
