Chapter 1 - Section 1.8 - Inverse Functions - Exercise Set - Page 271: 84

Answer

See below:

Work Step by Step

There is a relationship between the function and inverses of the function: if $\left( x,y \right)$ satisfies the equations of a function, then $\left( y,x \right)$ should satisfy the equations of the inverse of the function. Now, from the given graphs, it can be seen that the graph of the function $f\left( x \right)=4x+4$ passes through the points $\left( -1,0 \right)\text{ and }\left( 0,4 \right)$ , while the graph of the function $g\left( x \right)=0.25x-1$ passes through the points $\left( 0,-1 \right)\text{and }\left( 4,0 \right).$ Therefore, both functions are inverses of each other.
