To solve a linear equation, we use the properties of equality and of real numbers to isolate the variable in the equation and find the solution. For the equation $2x+4=10$, we must first subtract $4$ from each side: $$2x+4-4=10-4$$$$2x=6$$ Next, we divide by $2$ on each side of the equation: $$\frac{2x}{2}=\frac{6}{2}$$$$x=3$$
