Chapter 10 - Section 10.3 - Preparing to Do Analytic Proofs - Exercises - Page 468: 33

Answer

The base of the figure should be on the x-axis, and its left-most point should be on the origin.

Work Step by Step

In order to see if the midpoint is parallel to the base, it is best to draw the base on the x-axis: this way, there will be a good line to compare the midpoint to in order to see if it is parallel to the base. In addition, while it is not necessary, drawing the figure at the origin can help as it will make drawing an accurate drawing more easy. To find the midpoint, use a ruler to ascertain the middle of each of the sides. After connecting the middle of each of these sides to each other, one can ascertain that the line is parallel to the base.
