Chapter 6 - Section 6.4 - Dividing Polynomials: Long Division and Synthetic Division - Vocabulary, Readiness & Video Check - Page 369: 2

Answer

The degree of the divisor is greater than the degree of the remainder.

Work Step by Step

We know that with normal long division, you continue dividing until the remainder is less than the divisor. Dividing with polynominals is similar, except we consider the degree of the divisor and the degree of the remainder. Thus, we know that we can no longer continue long division when the degree of the divisor is greater than the degree of the remainder.
