Chapter 8 - Polynomials and Factoring - 8-7 Factoring Special Cases - Lesson Check - Page 514: 4

Answer

(2x-9)(3x+8)

Work Step by Step

Given the polynomial $6x^{2}$ - 11x - 72 *** We break of the middle term into two factors that add to give -11 and multiply to give -432. The two numbers are -27 and +16. $6x^{2}$ - 27x + 16x - 72 We take the GCD of the first two and the GCD of the last two terms. 3x(2x-9) + 8(2x-9) We take (2x-9) and factor it out which gives us. (2x-9)(3x+8)
