Chapter 6 - Systems of Equations and Inequalities - 6-3 Solving Systems Using Elimination - Standardized Test Prep - Page 380: 45

Answer

The y coordinate is 7.

Work Step by Step

First lets solve the system so that we can find the y coordinate of the system. Our two systems are, 1. 4x+3y=33 2. 3x+2y=23 Now, lets multiply the first equation by a scalar of 2 and the second equation by a scalar of 3. 1. 2(4x+3y=33) 2. 3(3x+2y=23) Simplify: 1. 8x+6y=66 2. 9x+6y=69 Now lets subtract the second equation from the first. Our y terms cancel out and we get: 8x+6y=66 - 9x+6y=69 _____________ -x=-3 (divide both sides by-1) x=3 Now that we have the value of x, lets substitute into the second equation to get the value of y. 3(3) +2y=23 9+2y=23 (Subtract 9 from both sides) 2y=14 (Divide both sides but 2) y=7 So our answer is the ordered pair: (3,7) Our y coordinate of the ordered pair is 7.
