Chapter 5 - Linear Functions - Mid-Chapter Quiz - Page 321: 23

Answer

Two methods that can be used to find an equation of a line from a graph are slope-intercept form and point-slope form. Slope-intercept requires you to find two separate points and use the rate of change formula to find the slope. This slope is then put in place of the m in the equation $ y=mx+b$. The intercept must also be found which can be found by plugging in the point and slope in $ y=mx+b$ and solving for b. With these two values, the equation of the graph is complete. Point-slope form requires the slope to be calculated like in the slope-intercept form (using the rate of change formula). Using this slope and a point of choosing, the equation can be completed by plugging in the values into the point-slope formula $ y-y1=m(x-x1) $.
