Chapter 5 - Linear Functions - 5-4 Point-Slope Form - Apply What You've Learned - Page 320: a

Answer

The equation in slope-intercept form would be $y=0.3x+6 $. To find the equation in slope-intercept form, first the slope must be calculated using $ \frac{change of y}{change of x} $. The two points selected were (3, 6.9) and (5,7.5). When the formula is applied this translates to $ \frac{7.5-6.9}{5-2} $ which is equal to 0.3, and that is the slope. The intercept can be applied if you use the rate of change and subtract 0.3 for every marble until you reach zero marbles. This would mean the intercept would be 6. Using $ y=mx+b$, the equation is $y=0.3x+6 $.
