Tales of the City Irony

Situational irony when Prue claimed that her article was light

It was a situational irony when Prue who was a columnist whose article was known as, 'The Western Gentry' told Frannie that she aimed to keep her article light. This is ironical because her column was a gossip column that told the secrets of the people of California.

Larrt disguising his opinion as facts

It is ironical that Larry Kean who was Mary Ann's boss called his opinion the 'honest to God truth'. This is because his opinion was flawed and wasn't fact as he claimed it was. For example he claimed that it was honest to God truth that Mary Ann couldn't excel in television yet she had not even tried it.

Brian concealing his true feelings about his job

It is a situational irony that when Mary Ann asked her partner Brian about his job as a waiter, he lied that it was good but he wanted to quit. Mary asked whether it was because the money was less than his previous job and he lied and said that the money was good yet it was obvious that he was making less money.

Jon's dislike of the Evergreen Song

It is ironical that Jon often listened to the song Evergreen and when asked his thoughts about it, he said that the singer was tone deaf and a big nosed bitch. This is ironical because the readers expect that since he listened to the song a lot, he would have positive comments about it.

Prue's assumption of how easy it would be to find her lost dog

It is ironical that Prue thought that once she went to the park and sat on one of the benches, her dog would come back running to her. This is ironical because her dog had gone missing for two weeks and she would have to look for it in order to find it. The police had already searched the park and hadn't found the dog.
