Humanity and the destruction of nature

This third part also explores the theme of humanity and how it is destroys the nature. There is a constant motif of a previous civilization called Rusties throughout. This civilization destroyed the nature completely and finally destroyed themselves in the process. These artificial towns where people are controlled and manipulated and the population kept under control are made to prevent them following in their ancestors' footsteps. At the end, when people are completely free of the shackles of this controlled society there is still a concern for what the consequences might be, if they will go down the previous generation's path again. It sends a message that people have to find a way to live alongside nature instead of destroying it.

Man-made utopia

The setting of New Pretty Town represents an utopia place where everyone has a chance to become equally beautiful as everyone else and spend their time leisurely without worrying about the future. There are no wars, no conflicts even and the nature is being preserved. The negative and what the main fight in the novel is all about is the lack of free will. And while the fight for the free will is won at the end, a question whether people are able to maintain the utopia society on their own, with their free will, is raised.
