Jakub Prochazka
He is the main character in the novel. Jakub narrates his ordeal when he embarks on a journey to space and back. The protagonist’s key mission to space is to explore a certain dark particle cloud called Chopra. While in the space, his wife leaves him and Jakub becomes frustrated. The narrator consoles himself by befriending a mysterious alien that appears like a spider. Jakub is rescued by a Russian shuttle just before he ran out of oxygen. His rescuers bring him to earth where he lives incognito.
Lenka
Lenka is Jakub’s wife. The woman is supportive of Jakub before he goes to the space. However, Lenka is against Jakub going to outer space. After Jakub goes into the space, Lenka communicates with him for a while before emotional stress overwhelms her. As a result, she leaves her matrimonial home and goes to live alone due to isolation.
Petr
He is Jakub’s mission engineer and a friend. Petr communicates with Jakub regularly and acts as espionage to inform Jakub about his wife. When Lenka leaves, Petr informs Jakub. The moment Jakub returns to earth, Petr is the first person to embrace him.
Jakub’s Father
Jakub’s father is described as a torturer who brings resentment to his family. He is a member of a community party and was used by the Soviet Union to torment dissent voices. After his death, people isolate his family prompting them to relocate to another region.
