allegory

A story that is an extended metaphor in which all the characters stand for something larger.

panoply

A showy display or exhibition.

intolerance

A lack of respect or concern for the attitudes, values or beliefs of others.

invalid

Incapacitated; infirm to the point of having trouble moving on one’s own.

naysayer

Someone who rejects the ideas or ambitions of other people.

convey

The transmission of communication from one person to another.

impudent

Boldly disrespectful; brazenly rude.

gauche

Vulgar and tasteless.

sketchy

Questionable; open to suspicious interpretation.

insolent

Contemptuous and rude, but often in a context conveying more cheekiness than impudence.

ethargy

Exhaustive sluggishness; weary and moving as if sleepwalking.

pugnacious

Aggressively belligerent.

nondescript

Exceptionally ordinary; remarkably commonplace.

embarkation

The process involving the loading of many passengers onto a large ship or plane.

emaciated

Wasted away physically; withered and gaunt.

prejudice

Irrational bias toward or against something based on preconceptions; a predisposition toward bigotry.

attaché

A diplomat or ambassador.

purgatory

A limbo state; literally the state of judgment between death and the afterlife.

importation

The practice of importing something; often conveying the sense of a negative outcome.

subversive

Characterizing a rebellious nature or quality of dissent.

malcontent

Restlessly dissatisfied; disgruntled; a complainer.
