Horace Holly
The protagonist of the novel, Horace is a Cambridge-educated man whose takes pride in his knowledge and mental acuity. His intellect comes into play, as he alone is able to communicate with the queen of the native tribe with his knowledge of Arabic. He becomes the official caretaker of Leo Vincey after his father's death.
Leo Vincey
Leo Vincey is the secondary protagonist of She, a young, fit Englishman. Over the course of the novel, he becomes romantically involved with Ustane, a Amahagger woman. He is described as handsome and confident.
Ayesha
Ayesha is the titular character of the novel, called "She" by the native tribe Amahagger. She is a legendary figure among them, a woman existing over 2,000 years ago who gained immortality.
Ustane
Ustane is a member of the Amahagger tribe. She becomes good friends, and lovers, with Leo, taking care of him when he is wounded. Finally, she defies her tribal values to be with him, a show of profound strength.
