Alina Starkov
Alina is the leading protagonist in the book. She is a lonely orphan who is adopted by Duke Keramsov. Initially, Alina is unaware of her unique and powerful talents. Once she turns eighteen, her power teleports her into the magical kingdom, Grisha. There she learns of her capable power of defeating The Darkling.
The Darkling
The Darkling is a charming and seductive creature who rules Grisha. He appears as a young good-looking man. The Darkling is ambitious and power-hungry. However, he adores his people and wants them to be free from slavery. He is smitten by Alina because she is immortal like him. Being the sole immortal in Grisha, The Darkling is very lonely. At the end of his reign, he sacrifices himself to save Ravka.
Mal
Mal is Alina’s childhood friend. After losing his family during the Border Wars, Mal spent years scavenging before joining Keramsov’s orphanage. There he met and befriended Alina. Mal is an expert tracker who offers his services to Keramsov’s hunters.
Ana Kuya
Ana is Keramsov’s housekeeper. She is the disciplinarian in the orphanage. Ana is extremely strict and detests disobedience. Most of the children in the orphanage fear her deep and indifferent gaze.
