Taxidermy - “I am Trying to Break your Heart”

The speaker in “I am Trying to Break Your Heart” avows, “The slightest taxidermy/ thrills me.” In the context of “I am Trying to Break Your Heart,” taxidermy represents a subjugated love. The speaker’s intention to dangle the taxidermy of the lover’s head on the wall deduces that the core objective would be to “conquer and run.”

Pocketbook - “Aunties”

The speaker says, “There’s a way a woman/ will not/relinquish/her pocketbook.” The pocketbook embodies a woman’s persona. Relinquishing the pocketbook would be tantamount to disparaging a woman’s feminine identity.

‘Gold Plated house’ - “Bling Bling Blues”

The speaker acquires a ‘goldplated house’ for his mother. The house embodies an exclusive, conspicuous and exorbitant abode. The ‘goldplated house’ exemplifies the speaker’s consumerism of ‘bling bling.’
