The rising sun
Kaaro is on the 15th floor in a high-rise building that hosts the bank, where he works as a repelling agent against sensitives targeting customer details. In the morning, Kaaro looks around to see the city's beauty from the high-rise building. While looking around, Kaaro compares light frames to the rising sun. Kaaro says, "The skyline around me blocks the direct view, but the light frames every high rise to my left like a rising sun and is reflected off the ones to my right. This is the reason there are no streetlights in Rosewater." The simile shows Kaaro’s dissatisfaction. Despite trying to have the city's best view, he is blocked by the skyline.
The simile of the columns
The bank where Kaaro works is mysteriously busy; it operates 24 hours daily, and the employees work in shifts. However, Kaaro does not know that the bank operates magically, and sometimes there are things he can't understand despite his critical role in repelling the sensitives. When he comes to the office in the morning, he is shocked to realize that the lobby is empty and dark, and he compares the stillness to Victorian pictures. Kaaro says, "The lobby is empty, dark. Columns stand inert like Victorian dead posed for pictures. The place is usually staffed when I go home, but I expect the staff has been allowed to leave early for the Opening." Kaaro finds this mysterious because the lobby is always full of employees, and the current situation is paradoxical. However, Kaaro does not question anything and instead goes directly to his desk.
The dome’s structure
The dome structure is unique built by aliens to capture human information. Kaaro has known the dome for years and knows how it transforms and behaves. For instance, the dome opens once a year and heals and resurrects people around it. However, the dome's recent appearance is confusing, and the narrator compares its color to charcoal. The narrator says, “The patch is roughly circular, with a diameter of six or seven feet. Black as night, as charcoal, as pitch. It looks like those dark bits on the surface of the sun. This is the boring part. It will take half an hour for the first healing to manifest.” The interesting thing, despite the disgusting color and shape of the dome, is that it will heal people and even resurrect those who died.
