Those Winter Sundays
Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden is about indifference that later leads to guilt and admiration. The poet takes his father's love for granted who wakes up early even on Sundays and awakens the poet as well. The poet is indifferent towards him, and his father doesn't even mind polishing the poet's shoes. Later, the poet asks a question that reflects his guilt of knowing nothing about the austerity of love, of taking his father's love for granted.
The Whipping
The poem The Whipping is a narrative in which a boy is beaten by a woman with a stick; she beats him so violently that even her stick breaks. This poem includes a flashback of the woman where she is being beaten by somebody. Then, the narrative ends with the woman resting against a tree, relieved that she took her revenge by beating someone else.
