Roald Dahl's Guide to Railway Safety Summary

Roald Dahl's Guide to Railway Safety Summary

Roald Dahl’s Guide to Railway Safety is a booklet written by the renowned children’s book author Roald Dahl and illustrator Quentin Blake. The book was commissioned by the British Railway Board in the year 1991 as a children’s guide to better comprehend the guidelines for railway safety.

The book opens with Dahl’s complaint of how adults always tell their children what to do and what not to do. According to the author, he would not have written the book if it were not for its importance to society. The book is organized as a conversation between the author and his audience (children).

Accompanied by both funny and somber illustrations, the book lists the Dos and Don’ts of railway safety. The guidelines are also served with funny personal stories of the author’s life and experiences as a child. After its publication, the book was distributed to pupils in UK primary schools.
