"An Astrologer's Day"
This short story follows the path of a lonely astrologer who doesn't know anything about the stars or the cosmos. Becoming an astrologer simply because he claims he was too poor to do anything else, he lies about his findings in the stars to make people think that he knows things, even though he does not. One day, the astrologer meets a rival astrologer whom he thought he had killed in a long fight. A small battle between the two ensues, but the rival safely escapes.
"The Missing Mail"
Thannappa is a very kind man, who handles the mail of a small community. His jubilant personality allows him to meet all his mailing clients and get to know them better, often engaging in conversation when delivering letters. Ramanujam is a clerk at a Revenue Department office and is one of Thannappa's best friends. The title reads "Missing Mail", and the missing piece relates to Ramanujam. Unfortunately, Thannappa reads one of his letters and finds that Ramanujam's relative passed away. Sneakily, he does not deliver the mail, because he wants Ramanujam to be happy at his daughter's wedding. It is not told whether or not Ramanujam gets his letter or not.
"The Doctor's Word"
Words cannot save someone, can they? Doctor Raman doesn't seem to think so, always frowning upon those who say that good words can save a life. However, disaster occurs, and Doctor Raman is forced into saying good words to an ailing friend, even though he does not believe they will do anything. The friend survives, and Raman remains perplexed at how simple syllables could have had such an effect.
