The Irony of Joyce Renfrew Having Sexual Intercourse with Bertie
Joyce Renfrew is married woman as she wears a “ gold wedding ring” which must be high-value due to the golden element. It is ironic for her to be sexually intimate with a co-worker, who she hardly knows, as one would expect her to respect her marriage are to respect the place of work. The act of having sex in a morgue is dishonorable and amoral.
The Irony of having sex on top of a stretcher
The stretcher’s principal purpose is to carry dead bodies into the morgue. However, Bertie and Joyce transform it into a copulation platform. The irony of the transformation is: a live person being comfortable copulating stretcher that was carrying death person few moments before.
The irony of the rivals
The doctor in “The Consultation” considers the lump in Gloria’s breast his competitor as they bought are going head to head for Gloria’s body. This comparison is ironical; the lump offends the doctor as if it were human and were seeking sexual favors from Gloria. The doctor’s anger towards the lump is unreasonable, considering that the doctor’s profession brings him into contact with similar lumps recurrently, as the lump is innate; thus the doctor’s anger cannot bar it from permeating Gloria’s entire body.
