Consider the following two conclusions Bipinbihari makes when he takes over his father’s landlord duties: “Firstly, workshy people who sat at home growing fat on rent from land they had sublet were in most cases useless and deserved no pity.” “Secondly, it was much harder to ensure an income than in his father and grandfather’s time.
