Elizabeth Wurtzel

Elizabeth is the central character of the memoir, and she narrates her life history and struggles with depression. Elizabeth was diagnosed with depression in her twenties, and a Prozac drug was recommended for her healing. Elizabeth's experiences remind readers of the need to talk about mental health as a measure to cure depression.

Rafe

Rafe is Elizabeth’s boyfriend. Rafe discovers that his girlfriend suffers from depression and mental breakdown but insists that he wants to stay alone.

Dr. Isaac

Dr. Isaac is the psychiatrist who attends to Elizabeth to help her recover from depression. Dr. Isaac reminds Elizabeth of the significance of taking her drugs according to schedule to hasten her.

Ruby

Ruby has found out that her boyfriend is secretly having a sexual affair with Elizabeth. When Ruby confronts Elizabeth, she confesses that it was an accident having sex with her boyfriend.

Noah

Noah is Elizabeth's college mate at Harvard, and she develops an interest in him, but he refuses.

Lynne Wurtzel

Lynne is Elizabeth’s mother.

Sam

Sam is Ruby's boyfriend, who happens to have a secret sexual affair with Elizabeth.

Donald Wurtzel

Donald Wurtzel is Elizabeth’s father.
