Students are not likely to have read any of Immanuel Kant's other works, but they may have been acquainted already with specific ideas from them, such as Kant's Critique of Pure Reason, Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals, etc. Furthermore, some may be acquainted with the ideas of a few of Kant's philosophical successors and interlocutors, and may be able to scaffold off of this knowledge. Students just getting into the study of philosophy may also know of the novel Sophie's World, which provides a short and accessible introduction to the history of Western philosophy.
