Pride (2014 film) The Queer Palm at Cannes

Since 2010, the Cannes Film Festival has been awarding a film with the Queer Palm, an independently sponsored prize for LGBT-themed films that are featured in the festival. Pride was the 2014 winner of the award, winning over such films as Mommy by Xavier Dolan, Saint Laurent by Bertrand Bonello, Girlhood by Céline Sciamma, and others.

The award was created in 2010 by the journalist Franck Finance-Madureira, and seeks to award a film "dealing with LGBT+, queer, or feminist themes among all the Cannes selections." At the time of this writing, the past winners of the Queer Palm are as follows: Kaboom by Gregg Araki, Beauty by Oliver Hermanus, Laurence Anyways by Xavier Dolan, Stranger by the Lake by Alain Guiraudie, Pride by Matthew Warchus, Carol by Todd Haynes, The Lives of Thérése by Sebastian Lifshitz, BPM by Robin Campillo, Girl by Lukas Dhont, and Portrait of a Lady on Fire by Céline Sciamma.

The jury for the first Queer Palm Award consisted of Benoit Arnulf (Nice’s LGBT fest), Florence Ben Sadoun (director), Romain Charbon (film journalist), Mike Goodridge (Screen), Xavier Leherpeur (film journalist), Ivan Mitifiot (Lyon’s LGBT fest), Pascale Ourbih (Chéries chéris Paris LGBT fest), and Brian Robinson (London LGBT fest).
