Evaluating Stories

Kind of Activity:

Collaborative Writing

Objective:

Students will objectively evaluate Poe’s stories.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.2

Structure:

To begin this activity, have students do a 5 minute freewrite. Have students brainstorm for 5 minutes in response to the following question: what makes a good story? After students have written for five minutes, ask them to share what they think. Write students’ thoughts on the board. Work together to come up with a short list of 5-6 points that make up a good story. These points will guide the rest of the activity.
