Study Objectives

If all of the elements of this lesson plan are employed, students will develop the following powers, skills, and understanding:

    Students will practice close reading poems for both literal and figurative meanings.

    Students will think and write analytically about literature, using examples from the text and appropriate literary terminology to support arguments about the way a text functions.

    Students will familiarize themselves with the Irish Literary Revival and be able to identify elements of it in Yeats's work.

  4. 4

    Students will study the historical context of Yeats's poems and be able to identify references to contemporary happenings in his work.
