Fundamentally, Pod is a novel about a young person coming to terms with her differences and her identity in a difficult world rapidly being changed by climate change. In the novel, Ea (the main character and protagonist) is a spinning dolphin who can't spin because of her disability. Because of her disability, she is ostracized by her pod (or family), causing her emotional turmoil.
