    The development of Ilmorog happens very quickly. Why does the narrator describe the development so quickly? How does the description advance the novel's themes?

    Students should describe their reactions to the descriptions, especially in light of the novel's jumbled structure. Some will point out that the novel captures the disorienting feeling of rapid westernization and development.
