Why does the narrator wait so long to reveal how Paul got the money to go to New York? What was the effect of the reveal? How did the beginning of the section affect your opinion of Paul?
Part of this question's goal is to give students a chance to vent about a strong authorial choice in the story. As such, there's room for a wide variety of opinions, ranging anywhere from thinking it was a mistake on the part of the author to an exciting twist. The reveal will be shocking, and perhaps even convince some that the second section is a fantasy, just like those before.
