Since 2006, when the events in Outcast United occurred, and even since 2009 when the book was published, the "Fugees Family" has grown. Today, there are many ways to get involved with the Fugees. College students and adults can work or volunteer with Fugees Academy and its associated tutoring and summer programs (which now have expanded from serving only middle school to include grades 6 - 12). Organizations and businesses can partner with the Fugees financially, and individuals can fundraise, donate directly, or buy merchandise.
Opportunities to volunteer and donate, and more information about the Fugees, can be found at: http://www.fugeesfamily.org/
Coach Luma and the Fugees players have also been interviewed and written about by a number of news sources since 2006. To find videos and articles about the Fugees since the events in the book took place, and to pair media and texts for classroom units, go to: http://www.fugeesfamily.org/in-the-news
There are also ways to get involved with refugee communities throughout the United States and the world. A good place to start is by looking at areas in your local community that help refugees through volunteer tutoring, legal services, and donations. World Relief and the International Rescue Committee, the organizations referenced most in Outcasts United, also welcome donations and volunteers.
