"You"
One of the very important characters, it can be assumed, or perhaps just a passing character in the poetry of Osip is "you." This figure slips in a wispy shawl and is one who, along with the poetic persona, didn't stir a single soul, didn't wake anyone. The individual, also like the poetic persona, represents the self.
Servants
The servants together represent another character, collectively symbolizing the society as they sleep while the two people sneak out. These servants perhaps also represent social hierarchy as well as dogmas. They represent everything that confines the two lovers.
Children
It is interesting to note that this poetry generally has collective characters. Even in this case, children are seen as a collective identity. It is "children's" books that are talked about. Only "children's" thoughts are mentioned. The children represent a fading past - everything that has disappeared, that has receded.
