Structure:
Discuss colonialism in the story. Consider using the Wikipedia site on Suriname or other online resources to help students become more familiar with colonial, 17th century Suriname. Identify places in the text that seem relevant to a discussion about colonialism.
Guide students through the text by asking them to choose between anti-colonialist tones in the narrative and colonialist tones....
