Oh, The Places You'll Go Character List

The Boy ("You")

We closely follow the journey of the protagonist—a young boy wearing yellow pajamas and a hat—and see him express a range of emotions, from fear to joy. In spite of this, though, Seuss does not give the boy a name or any specific, discernible attributes. The narrator refers to the boy as “you,” and the broad, nondescript quality of his misadventures allows us to identify with both his triumphs and setbacks. The use of second-person narration addresses and implicates readers in the text, thus inviting us to project our own life experiences onto the boy’s journey.
