Published in 2007, Nineteen Minutes was written by American author Jodi Picoult, and is her fourteenth novel. Upon its release, Nineteen Minutes instantly reached the New York Times Bestseller list, as Picoult's following of loyal readers continued to grow. Set in Sterling, New Hampshire, the novel focuses on the prudent topic of school shootings. A thriller, the novel follows several characters, including police detective Patrick, suspected school shooter Peter, and victim Josie.

Born in 1966, Jodi Picoult is an established author with 27 novels in publication and over 40 million copies of her works in print. She has also written short stories and some comic strips. Typically written in a procedural drama style, Picoult's novel touch on touchy topics such as abortion and race relations. She is an avid advocate for women's rights and expansion of educational opportunities for children.
