The images of the explosion at the laboratory
The explosion in the laboratory is heard from a distance after Ballister and Nimona set an explosive a few seconds after leaving. Ballister and Nimona count, "Five…four…three…two…one. Boom!” When the chief officer watches the breaking news on his television, the anchor says, “There is an explosion at the laboratory. It is believed to be the work of the renowned supervillain Ballister Blackheart. The number of causalities has not yet been confirmed.” The imagery is important because it shows what Nimona and Lord Ballister can do when they combine their forces. Nimona and Ballister are on a mission to destroy the image of Sir Ambrosious Goldenloin in the public domain to show that he is incapable of the work of the current Champion of the Institute.
The imagery of a Shapeshifter
Initially, when Nimona tells Ballister that she wants to be his sidekick, he dismisses her request because he thinks she is not beneficial to him. When Ballister looks at Nimona, he sees a tiny child who does not seem energetic enough to be his assistant. However, Nimona tells Ballister, "Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I am a shapeshifter." Ballister responds, "Well, I can see how that would be useful." Ballister changes his mind after seeing Nimona's ability to help him defeat Goldenloin. Consequently, this imagery signifies Nimona’s magical powers that can help her work with any force of her choice, and in this regard, she chooses Lord Ballister.
The attack on the city
Ballister and Nimona’s plan to attack the city and kidnap the king is explained by depicting a sense of sight. Ballister says, "Firstly, we'll attack the city with genetically modified dragons. The king will be attending the parade downtown. Our dragons will swoop down and kidnap him. I will announce our ransom demands from the top of the tallest tower. Then we will fly off with the king detonating the tower behind for our emphasis." The imagery is significant because it shows the hatred of Ballister and Nimona towards the current administration, and they want to use their magical powers to siphon money from the authorities. Ballister and Nimona are assured of compensation if they successfully kidnap the king.
