Naked Masks Imagery

The Imagery of hearing

The author has used sound to depict the sense of hearing in the play. Ludovico is among the actors in this play and he is quoted shouting to attract the attention of other actors in the play. He shouts:

“Here I am! Here I am! Please sit down, make yourself comfortable (he hurries to shut the windows) Uhh, these dammed windows. If they are open, the noise is intolerable”

This imagery of sound is intended at appealing the sense of hearing to the reader. Additionally, the imagery is purposed at helping the reader to be part of the play and follow it keenly since he can hear what is taking place.

The imagery of smell

To make the play livelier, the author uses the imagery of smell to enable the reader to have a feeling of what the scene smells like. For instance, the author writes:

“If I shut the windows, the rooms get unbearably stuffy”

The imagery plays a significant role in appealing the sense of smell to the reader and he does not have any difficulty in conceptualizing and visualizing the scene of the play.

The Imagery of sound

In the play, the noise of a heavy truck passing by depicts the sense of hearing to the reader. The depiction of sound is critical in literary work since it helps the reader to have a clear understanding of what is happening in the play. The writer notes:

“The noise of a heavy truck passing in the street drowns of the remainder of Mrs. Onoria’s words and rattles the windows”

The imagery of sight

The imagery of sight has been used in the play to help the reader to visualize what is exactly taking place. Besides visualizing, the imagery is critical in aiding the reader to conceptualize how the play is taking place. The argument between Ludovico (tenant) and Onoria (property owner) precisely brings out the imagery of sight as indicated in the quote below:

“In fact, I intend to leave. Immediately. In the meantime, get out of my sight”

The above words are spoken by Ludovico to express her disappointment towards the Onoria who is trying to embarrass her in front of her friend.
