Andrea
The central protagonist, and the victim of the Spanish Civil War, Andrea is a young girl living in Barcelona attending college and trying to sort out family drama in the aftermath of the civil war.
Ena
A foil of Andrea. Whereas Andrea's wealthy was lost in the war, Ena's family is still very wealthy, and the two families are connected by Ena's mother who was connected with Andrea's uncle Roman.
Uncle Roman
This musically inclined, sort of liberal character, Roman, is responsible for the major turn of the narrative when he finds himself involved in illegal activities in the post-war economy. His suicide may be connected to Andrea's final decision to leave behind the remnant of her family in pursuit of a better life.
Andrea's Grandmother
Perhaps an allegory of old Spain, Andrea's grandmother is unaware of the fact that her house has decayed into filth. Her age and helplessness mean that she is only the remnant of who she used to be.
