Myth (Trethewey poem)

Myth (Trethewey poem) Summary

The poem retells the story of Orpheus from his point of view. It begins with him saying that his beloved, Eurydice, slipped away from him as he slept. He states that she lives on in his dreams. He spends each day reliving the moment in which he lost her, turning to find that she is not there. The poem then retells these events in reverse, ending with the speaker saying again that he was asleep while she died.
