My Year Summary

My Year Summary

My Year (originally published in 1993) is one of Roald Dahl's last books and was published posthumously to tremendous fanfare and acclaim.

Over the course of his life, Dahl was a prodigious diarist. My Year is essentially a distilled version of Dahl's diary from the last year of his life in 1990. In that vein, because Dahl knew that he was nearing the end of his life, My Year is filled with Dahl's musings on the present - and perhaps most importantly, the past - from his perspective and the perspective of many other people. All of this occurs while the seasons are changing around Dahl.

Along with Dahl's musings, My Year is filled with whimsical tips on a vast assortment of things, including how to get rid of lawn moles and how to properly garden (gardening, as it is revealed in the book, was one of Dahl's favorite pastimes). In that sense, My Year is a book both about Dahl's life and the tips and tricks he learned to live the best life he could live.
