Lucilla Marjoribanks
Lucilla Marjoribanks is the story's protagonist. The novel begins when Lucilla is seventeen years old. She is the only child of Dr. Marjoribanks. When Lucilla's mother dies, she returns home from college to comfort her mourning father. However, when Lucilla gets home, her father tells her that he does not need any support, and in case, he suggests that she returns to college to finish her studies.
After graduating two years later, Lucilla returns to Carlingford to launch a program that shapes her society politically. Lucilla wants to shape the politics in her society and influence people to think differently. To achieve this ambitious vision, Lucilla organizes Thursday Evenings, and she is nicknamed Queen Bee of Carlingford (QBC) in a few days. Lucilla becomes very influential to the extent she proposes the person elected Member of Parliament (MP) in her constituency.
Dr. Marjoribanks
Dr. Marjoribanks is the father of Lucilla. Marjoribanks is grieving the death of his wife. Everyone in Carlingford knows Dr. Marjoribanks because he is the only known medical practitioner. In addition, Dr. Marjoribanks is famous for organizing men's dinner parties, which has earned him a great name.
Tom Marjoribanks
Tom is a cousin of Lucilla from her father's side. Dr. Marjoribanks wishes Tom was his son. Tom is the son of Dr. Marjoribanks' brother. He influences Tom to join politics. Tom Loves Lucilla very much, but she turns down his proposal. Tom leaves for India heartbroken but hoping that Lucilla will change her mind when he returns.
Mr. Cavendish
In Carlingford, Mr. Cavendish is the only man who loves flirting at parties. Mr. Cavendish is talkative, courageous, and a risk-taker. Lucilla notes that Mr. Cavendish flirts at her Thursday Evening parties. At the same time, Mr. Cavendish does not miss men's dinners, where is also flirts with fellow men.
Nancy
Nancy is the cook of Dr. Marjoribanks. Nancy plays an important role in men's dinners because she is the one who cooks food and ensures that everything goes according to plan. Interestingly, sometimes Nancy competes with Lucy in the house to see who is superior, but Lucilla usually wins.

Mr. Lake
Mr. Lake is the father of Rose and Barbara. The author depicts Mr. Lake as arrogant, strict, and hardworking. Mr. Lake is a widower with several children; he is taking care of several other children left behind by his late wife.
Mr. Ashburton
Mr. Ashburton is Lucilla's favorite candidate for the parliamentary seat in her constituency. Lucilla campaigns for him until he wins the elections against Mr. Cavendish.
