The Chernobyl Power Plant
The Chernobyl Power Plant cost a considerable amount of money to build (likely a hundred million dollars at the time), yet the Soviets hired inept, ill-educated people to work the plant and didn't take the time to make sure the plant was designed correctly.
The Safety Test
The safety test that was conducted by the Chernobyl Power Plant's workers was ultimately responsible for destroying the power plant rather than saving it from destruction as it was intended to do.
Nuclear Energy
A technological advance like nuclear energy was meant to advance humanity and make it easier - and more cost-effective - for as many people as possible to get electricity. However, instead of giving hope and electricity and opportunities, nuclear energy was responsible for ruining the lives, displacing, and killing countless people at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
The Robot
The robot that the Soviet Union ordered from Germany so that it could remove the debris off the top of the reactor was designed for a reasonably low amount of radiation. The trouble is, the Soviet Union gave the Germans the incorrect radiation level, which ensured the destruction of the robot (which worked totally against the Soviet's interest).
Fossil Fuels and Chernobyl
Power plants like Chernobyl were created to move the world off damaging fossil fuels and to reduce the cost for energy. The trouble is, the Chernobyl power plant caused much more damage (both physical and financial) to the world and the environment than fossil fuels ever did for a considerable amount of time.
