Students will connect events in "Middlemarch" with real life historical events.

Structure:

In this long-term project, students will connect moments of Middlemarch with historical events during the period in which the novel is set. Historical events are mentioned in the novel, such as the Reform Bill and the cholera epidemic. Often, these events are mentioned in passing and are not extensively explained. Students should do research to fill out the novel's historical background....
