Corruption
Thomas Middleton suggests the corruptible aspect of cities through his characterization of Lethe and the Country Wench. Andrew Lethe forsakes his past in search of a more profitable future, but in doing so he loses himself and succumbs to the wayward city norms. Additionally the Country Wench abandons her home for the city. Once moving to the city, the Country Wench becomes a prostitute and too is corrupted by city life.
Trickery
Trickery is a common recurrence with Michaelmas term. This can be seen particularly in the characterization of Easy. It is clear even from his name that he is gullible and the other characters in the play continuously take advantage of him. Various character adopt disguises and tell lies to benefit themselves. At the end of the tale, each character is met with the proper ending for their actions.
