    Objective:

    Students will examine the text and determine what types of costumes would be appropriate for the characters in The Merchant of Venice.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.7

    Structure:

    Remind the class that The Merchant of Venice is a play, and a play is meant to be performed on a stage rather than read in a book.

    In a produced play, the actors must be wearing costumes. What kinds of costumes would be appropriate for each of Merchant's characters?
