Man's Search for Meaning Imagery

Auschwitz Camps

The book is replete with images of Auschwitz concentration camps during WWII which were the worst and almost infamous camps, where the Jews were imprisoned during the Holocaust. Hitler kept them there because they were considered unwanted and it was planned to kill all of them. The Jews waited for their deaths in those prisons and suffered from unbearable conditions. The author has conveyed the horrendous images of life in Auschwitz by narrating his experiences. He was a first-hand eyewitness of the camps and he has given an account of the testimony about unbearable conditions in the camps. It was in these prisons where Frankl developed his logotherapy.

Survival

There are images of survival in the book. Frankl and his companions survived the Holocaust by maintaining a positive attitude and an optimistic approach towards life. Frankl suffered from horrific conditions in camps, but he did not give up and he continued to create meaning in life. Frankl has propagated that those who did not succumb to despair and retain some semblance of hope and meaning in the vicious circumstances of their lives, tasted the freedom of life. They survived and it was their desire for searching a purpose which pushed them forward towards their survival.

Life Before War

Victor survived the Holocaust and he prevent himself from despairing by invoking the images of his relationship with his wife. He survived the horrible ordeal by thinking about his life with his wife before war. There are images of Victor’s conversing with his wife and showing love for her. These images saved him from the unfortunate life and provided solace and comfort during his imprisonment.
