Salvation
The imagery Adolphus describes of Undershaft playing his trombone at the Salvation Army march and meeting describes an immoral man who doesn’t believe to the salvation of God. He saves souls, what Barbara desires, even though he doesn’t believe. And Cusins description of the meeting brings life to Barbara’s despair the day after.
Loaded
Cholly sits on top of a loaded shell At Undershaft’s Factory. The image shows a perfect picture of a man of “high society” with no clue of the destruction that is so close to him. He is blissful in his ignorance of what Undershaft does.
Drummer
Adolphus laying down his drum at the Salvation Army and then picking it back up to play with Undershaft creates the image of a man seeking after him as Cusins knows the power Undershaft wields and it intoxicates him.
Cap of Truth
After giving his testimony of salvation to the people of the Salvation Army, Snobby Price lays his cap upon Cusins drum which has Bill’s money on it. He then swipes the money with his hat. The imagery helps us to understand that Price is not a man who has sincerely repented, that he is only there for a free meal.
